Preparedness for Severe Weather or Emergency Conditions
Print and use this checklist to stock your car for winter safety and emergency preparedness. Store these items in your trunk and you'll be prepared for just about any bump (or skid) along the road.
Basic Kit:
- Storage container
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Tow rope
- Collapsible shovel
- Rags or paper towels
- First-aid kit
- Flares
- Snow scraper/brush
- Basic tool kit
- Matches and candles, housed in a waterproof container
- Window washer fluid
- Water
- Bag of kitty litter or sand
- High-calorie snack foods, canned fruit, nuts, raisins and/or granola bars
- Can opener
- Emergency poncho
- Blanket
- Gloves - 1 leather pair, 1 latex pair
Additional Items to Consider:
- Tire chains
- Spare set of warm clothes and socks
- Siphon pump
- Reflective safety vest
- Emergency strobes
- Whistle
- Roll of toilet paper
- Disposable camera
- 12-hour light sticks
